Mr and Mrs Ray Shumway of Carlsburg Washington welcome a son born December 25. Gladys Johnson Shumway is the mother and is the daughter of Mrs Mary Johnson of Pocahontas. New Year gatherings at the DePew home include Kenneth DePew and Jerry of Rolfe and Rita Terwilliger and children Janet and Rodger of Humbolt with the Terwilliger children visiting grandparents Mr and Mrs DePew. Roy DePew's trip to Algona to see stroke victims Mr Jerome Hawkins and Joseph Eyrthe, both patients at St Annes hospital, is noted. Marilyn Shonka stayed with Paul Wagner in Fort Dodge. Mr and Mrs Robert Sennett welcomed a son on December 29 at Mercy Hospital Fort Dodge. Jack James returned to Evanston Illinois after visiting his parents C G James. he graduates December 14 with a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and will work in public relations with Edwin Shields Hewitt association.

Fire in Trailer Home Suppressed by Neighbors
A fire at Mrs. Luella Winters trailer home was cut off by neighbors before firefighters arrived. The blaze started when an oil burner overflowed and ignited. clothing in the trailer also burned. Pocahontas club hears four voice pupils in concert
A musical prelude opened the Pocahontas Federated Women's club meeting on Tuesday evening December 27. Mrs. George McCartan presented four voice pupils Lolita Hammes Marilyn Shonka Helen Reigelsberger and Sally Mitchell with Mary Ann Schroeder at the piano. Mrs. Robert Conrad a former Puerto Rico resident explained the club's Pan program.
