Purple vetch offers value as fall and spring forage and seed crop
Purple vetch shows high feeding value and good hay in pasture with yields of 2½ tons per acre. It grows in western Oregon and Washington, tolerates winter temps to 18 below zero, and requires fall sowing in milder areas or spring sowing in colder regions. Seed rates are 80 to 80 pounds per acre and harvesting uses standard equipment.
