Loss of M. & St. L. Means More Than Supposed
Fairfax Minnesota February 6 Communities served by the Minneapolis and St. Louis railroad fear greater loss than anticipated if the sale and breakup proceed. F K Gage of Fairfax, chairman of the Executive Defense committee, says many towns would become branch-line communities or lose service entirely as portions of 500 miles of trackage could be dropped. He notes branch lines rarely profit and warns the plan risks serious shipping disruption across parts served by the M and St L system.
