Harley C West, who since the start of the school year served as janitor at the local school, died after a brief illness. He had been a familiar figure maintaining the building and assisting students and staff for years.

A large family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jacobsen on Sunday to honor Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cole of Rochelle Illinois. Attendees included the Stovers, Mae Stover, Harold Wright and family, Betty and Peggy Cole, the Mullers, Geo. Waters and families, C. C. Cole and son, Dale Williams and son, S. J. Havelock Struggles With Water Supply Crisis

Havelock remains bone dry as the new city well, drilled to 122 feet, tested inadequate. On Monday the old well was dynamited and efforts continue to restore water. The new water tower is being painted with aluminum alloy for a neat exterior.

West obituary crosses decades in Pocahontas County

A lengthy obituary notes the life of Mr. West a longtime deputy sheriff and church member from Pocahontas county born in Linden and married to Hattie L. He died January 23 1984 at age 48 years 2 months and ? His family includes widow daughter Claire who died in infancy and Jorie Mae surviving siblings and mother Mrs. Gilmore. Funeral services were held at the M E church with Rev C L Day in charge and pallbearers from Odd Fellows Fraternal orders.
