Clintland Oats Available From Pocahontas Growers

The Clintland oat variety released by the Indiana station in 1953 and increased by three Pocahontas growers in 1954 will be available in limited quantity for 1955 planting. Local growers who expanded seed this past season are Tom Donahue Pocahontas Arlo Ives Rolfe and Wilbur Pearson Palmer. Until January 15 all seed grown by these growers will be held for sale in Pocahontas. Soon after the 15th of January seed will be released for sale.

Tractor toppled while pulling truck, man pinned

Vance Hanna of near Forest City was unhurt when his pickup left the road and went into a ditch. While attempting to pull the truck out with his tractor the tractor toppled backward trapping him and breaking both pelvic bones. Shelby county reached mid progress on road surfacing with more roads surfaced than unsurfaced, engineer Stanley Clay announced.

Truck Driver's Cough Sparks $3000 Crash Near Audubon

Seymour Mills a Bedford truck driver had a coughing spell causing his semi trailer to overturn near Audubon incurring a $3000 loss. Authorities investigated the incident and an appeal for local assistance with the sale of the wreck.

Farmers Urged to File Estimates by January Fifteenth

Federal taxpayers and farmers are reminded to file their estimated taxes by January 15 and completed returns by January 31 for 1954. With many changes in the new income tax law, filings will take more time and may require higher preparation fees. Farmers should supply return information promptly after January 1, and information blanks are available from lawyers through the Pocahontas County Bar Association.
