Doctors weigh triage rules in atomic attack defense
Dr H B Elkins of the State University of Iowa warned civilian defense students that in an atomic attack many injured would be deemed beyond help to save time for those who can be saved. He cited 50 to 60 percent injuries from debris and fires as the primary cause, with 10 to 15 percent from radiation, and stressed the need for whole blood and blood plasma to treat burns and radiation.
