Children await Santa in Bradgate with a free 1 PM movie at the hall. Adults must register 10 AM to noon or 1 PM onward for a drawing offering 100 dollars in gifts donated by local businesses. Prizes include trade coupons, a duck, a bushel of apples, and other items. Santa will hand out candy after the show.
Gifts were distributed at the Christmas program hosted by Mrs. Ellsworth and Mrs. Munson with several hosts. An eight pound four ounce girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wilkin on Sunday afternoon December 18. Various locals, college students, and relatives visited and returned home. Revert Stanley Madsen is named for a ten pound son born at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge on December 1.
Sunday evening vesper services under Bradgate Progress Club auspices were held in the Methodist church. A men's quartet sang Joy to the World and Silent Night, with members Hardly Sietsema Art Zeman Ed Zeman and Joe Anlicker. The program included Star of the East sung by Phyllis Curry with Mrs George Curry accompanying, O Come All Ye Faithful, a sermon by Rev d J Share and hymns We Three Kings of Orient Are and Silent Night Holy Night.
Relatives gathered Sunday evening at the Magnus Larsen home to honor Mrs. Larsen her daughter Janiece and Mrs. Laura Pedersen of Humboldt. Attendees named include the Pedersens from Rolfe Humboldt Ottosen Unique and nearby residents, with a potluck lunch served.
A Friday evening shower in the Lutheran church parlors honored Mrs. Richard Williams and Mrs. Norman Petersen. Beulah Benjamin read poems, Hans Isacson told a Christmas story, Harold Williams read a tribute to his daughter, and a contest won by Mrs. Bertelsen and Mrs. Hoops. Brides assisted with gifts as hostesses served lunch.
Thursday evening Mr and Mrs Will Bowen observed their 46th wedding anniversary with 21 guests from Humboldt Maple Lawn and Dakota City who brought cake and ice cream. Attendees presented a 50 piece dinner set and included Mr and Mrs Donald Bowen near Gilmore Melford Zeman Albert Zeman Harvey and others. Esther Brooks returned from Mercy hospital after a two week stay and Wilma Dayton came home from hospital after an emergency appendectomy.
In district court of Pocahontas County Iowa an instrument purporting to be the last will of Ellen W Mather deceased dated July 8 1943? has been filed opened and read a hearing is set for January 10 1950 at 2 00 PM at the Pocahontas court house before the district court or the clerk all interested persons must appear and show cause why the instrument should not be probated and allowed as the last will and testament of the deceased Katherine Boozell clerk of district court signs the notice with the date December 10 1949.
Mrs. H. W. Hass of Decorah cooked and served her 59th Thanksgiving meal last month, continuing a long-running annual service.
