A community shower at the Methodist church celebrated Janet Van Horsen Waters on Friday with pink and green décor and a mini bride cake. Guests included Ruth Waters and several out of town relatives as gifts were displayed and lunch served. various local activities and visits followed through the weekend.

Car crash injures two teens near Prover and Rolfe
Friday evening Darrell Herscher and Larry Heathman were injured when Darrell’s car left a dead end road northeast of Prover. Emeraine and three Laurens girls aided, with injuries to both boys’s heads. Larry’s condition described as more serious. Darrell to leave hospital midweek.

Iowa Bird Seasons Close
The State Conservation Commission announced all Iowa game bird seasons are closed. Quail season ended December 15 after a strong showing, pheasant season closed December 5 with mixed results, waterfowl season ended December 8. Rabbit season runs to January 31 and raccoon season lasts until midnight February 10. Foxes and coyotes have no closed seasons.

In Lakota a three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Christ ate an undetermined number of her mother reducing pills. She was found unconscious and taken to the hospital but is reported to be okay now.

Hunters near Ireton found a wounded white albino hen pheasant nicknamed the ghost bird. The injured bird cannot fly and will be sent to the state biology department for study and care.
