Prolific beetle study highlights forest damage and reforestation need
A study of western pine beetle stages in 880 square feet of bark from 67 trees across about 36 square miles shows high mortality between young and mature broods. It notes about 150 beetles per square foot reach adulthood, equating to 50 000 beetles per infested tree and 380 000 per 1000 board feet of timber, underscoring natural and artificial controls in forest policy.
