A dense list of meetings and events for local clubs. Dates range from December 6 to January 4 with activities at homes, schools, church basements, and the town hall. Highlights include Woman's Club sessions, Parent-Teacher meetings, D. M. T. Farm Unit gathering, Christmas party, and a Santa Claus visit on December 22.
Rolfe Woman's Club will hold its next meeting at the home of L. Gunderson Friday after December 7. The program features the Public Welfare Department with W. A. Wilkinson speaking on Americanization Problems followed by a musical interlude. Members urged to attend.
Mr Spotveld of Fort Dodge will visit Rolfe every Friday to give private instruction on wind and stringed instruments. The program ran for two years previously with positive student progress and band benefits. The district plans to expand the method, seeking more students and potentially a school band under Spotveld’s direction once personal development supports it.
The Northwestern States Portland Cement plant at Marble Valley near Rolfe will operate at full capacity through winter. Supt. H. Webster reports about 100 people are employed. The plant’s continued operation supports local industry and calls for home-made cement to aid Iowa road construction if road bond act is constitutional. The Pure Marble Valley rock quality is praised, and the community hopes for years of ongoing production benefiting the region.
The Tuesday Club held its second luncheon at the J. R. McIntire home. Nineteen members enjoyed decorated tables, cornucopia centerpieces, and a lunch that followed culinary contests. New members Mrs. Geo. O. Hauck and Mrs. Frank King were initiated. entertainment included contests and piano selections by Eldon Obrecht and Robert Obrecht, ending with a Christmas party planned for December 18 at Mrs. J. H. Engel.
The Home Management program in Pocahontas county schedules its next series starting Monday December 10 with meetings in Swan Lake Cummins Marshall- Dover Cedar Colfax and other areas. Sessions begin at 10 00 a m and cover Large Quantity Meal Planning with hosts including Walter Mather Mrs Julia Wagner Mrs Earl Chambers Mrs H D Brinkman and Mrs Nona McMahon.
The D M T Unit of the Farm Bureau will meet Monday evening at eight o clock in the school building. Meeting date moved from Dec 17 to Dec 10 to allow election of new officers before the county meeting. All members urged to attend.
Rolfe prepares city decorations with a large lighted Christmas tree on Garfield street and business houses adorned with trees. C. M. Patterson supplies small trees for display. On Saturday December 22 at 2 PM Santa Claus will distribute five hundred boxes of candy to local children.
The St Margarets Catholic Church ladies host their annual supper in the church basement on Thursday evening December 13. Menu includes roast chicken with dressing cranberry mashed potatoes gravy buttered peas salad pickles rolls berry pie coffee. Supper served at 5 30 p m with prices 50 cents and 35 cents. Come and bring your appetite.
Sunday evening a multi-vehicle crash on Primary No. 44 near the H. F. Clerich farm involved Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Patterson and Harold Himan of Palmer. Mrs. Patterson suffered bruises, Bert Peterson’s car bumped Harvey and Mrs. Peterson, and all parties escaped serious injury as snow limited visibility and four wheel brakes prevented worse damage.
The D M T Woman's Club will hold its meeting at the school building on Tuesday afternoon December 11 at two o'clock. Each member is urged to attend and bring a ten cent gift for the Christmas grab bag.
Rolfe P T A plans a large Monday gathering at the school with H C Wiegman outlining goals for a thriving organization. The program includes violin and piano solos, an instrumental trio, and social activities as part of the first post setup meeting.
Mr and Mrs James Bruce and Miss Isabell Were driving from Colfax when their car skidded on packed snow near Primary No 60 two miles north of the Lincoln Highway intersection. The car tumbled onto its side but passengers escaped serious injury. Mrs Bruce injured only lightly and Miss Isabelle unhurt. Mr Bruce had a finger cut. The vehicle was towed and started again, and the party continued to Webster City then home.
The annual Christmas Seals sale is on highlighting funds for school health work and free clinics in towns statewide. The article notes broad public acceptance and measurable progress in combating tuberculosis through seal proceeds.
I C F announces a meeting Friday night December 7 to conduct degree work and other important business. Attendees are urged to bring another member.
J. C. Cooksey plans a closing out farm sale at the Geo. O. Hauck farm northeast of Rolfe on Wednesday December 12. The catalog includes eight horses about 250 chickens and various farm machines led by an Aultman 15-30 tractor Emerson tractor plow and a Racine threshing machine.
J. E. Schnug spent Thanksgiving with his daughter Mrs A O Peterson at Lincoln Nebraska. Editor Byron Allen and Rob Anderson were from Pocahontas Saturday afternoon visiting friends.
