Havelock News reports Barney Waters recovering from a hand infection after a scratch while picking corn. Numerous local residents and visitors are listed with travels, dinners, and family gatherings around Havelock, Pocahontas, Laurens, and nearby towns during Thanksgiving week.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Cornwell were surprised on Monday November 25 as relatives and friends gathered at their home to mark their 40 years of marriage. A social hour and gift presentation preceded an excellent lunch with attendees including Walter Hersom Laurens Irvin Cornwell Rolfe Charles Otto Plover Daphne Cornwell Pocahontas Delbert Moore Henry Edge Chester Cornwell and families Donald Cornwell.
Pupils of the local school in Havelock offer Christmas Seals to support the nationwide tuberculosis campaign. Seals fund clinics nursing service preventoriums rehabilitation education medical and social research and related efforts.
Tuberculin testing of children, X ray surveys, and related activities aim to discover cases early for cure. Every Christmas Seal purchase supports this nation's fight against tuberculosis.
The season debut saw Havelock and Rodman in a doubleheader. The local boys lost 43 to 19, while Rodman girls defeated Havelock girls 32 to 26.
Harry Hansen was badly burned when a carboy of acid broke while being unloaded from a truck last Wednesday evening. The acid sprayed his face and his right eye suffered severe burns with the sight of that eye feared to be lost.
George Oleson 11 had his left thumb severed in a smash-up near Mallard on Thanksgiving Day. Keith Oleson, hospitalized in Rochester Minnesota with a hip bone infection, follows as another family member injured. Mr. Oleson died in an automobile mishap two weeks earlier.
Mrs James Wright, long treated at University Hospital Iowa City for pernicious anemia, suffered a relapse in the latter part of the week.
Mrs O J Keerles Mrs Vern Waters Mrs Ruth Swanson and Ted and Mr Wright were summoned to her bedside Sunday evening for a blood transfusion to improve her condition.
Havelock Methodist Church announces worship and Sunday school schedule with services this week and an invitation to all. In Pocahontas County Iowa the District Court reports the appointment and qualification of executor C W Carpenter 342 for the estate of I F Fisher with payment and claim procedures per law dated November 22 1955.
Rolfe notes include visits from former residents to Rolfe and Muscatine travelers, plans for a closing out sale December 16, tuberculosis awareness drives with Christmas Seals, multiple family gatherings for Thanksgiving, and local dances, along with social visits among the Cornwell and Davis clans and notices of schooling and travel to Waterloo.
Mr and Mrs L Melning hosted visitors while Raymond Nelson and another student from Falla plans to return to college. Betty Melson of Milford and another pair spent Thanksgiving with Randall Melson family. J Russell Smith of Kent Ohio joined for dinner and planned a trip to South Dakota with Mrs Smith relatives. J H Brinkman drove to F Wednesday for daughter Helen who spent the holiday at home. Halleck from Buena Vista College rode with them while Helen resumed teaching duties at Albion.
