Pocahontas High Opens Football Practice Under Hermann Cope
Pocahontas high school football practices began this week with George Hermann as coach and Elgin Allen as assistant. Nine lettermen return to the Indians as they prepare for an eight game schedule starting September 15 at home against Lake City. The schedule lists games through November 9, with homecoming October 20.

The Winegarden and Gregory family reunion met Sunday in the I.O.O.F. hall at Pocahontas with a noon potluck. Tom Ferris of Humboldt and Mrs. F. E. Hronek of Pocahontas were named oldest man and woman. Ed Winegarden became president and Erma Pattee secretary treasurer. The next reunion will be in Pocahontas in August 1951.

The Ameri can Legion Auxiliary executive board led by Mrs. Lora Weber will host two potluck suppers at 6:80 oclock on Tuesday September 5 before the Legion meeting in Memorial hall. A visit by Father Bernard Koebele to his brother Adolph Koebele and family prompted a large dinner with relatives from Alta Fonda and nearby towns. Family travelers include Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ahtmann and parents visiting Texas Old Mexico and San Francisco en route to Phoenix Denver Yellowstone. Community members Emma Pattee takes Laurens teaching post while others visit Des Moines Spencer and Fort Dodge for hospital updates and state fair attendance.

A Friday evening shower at Havelock Methodist Church honored Mrs. Jerry Van Horsen. Hostess duties were led by Mrs. Jay Martens with a program including a reading by Mrs. Blanche Bohn and two duets by Janet VanHorsen and Doreen Philp. The couplet play Her First Meal was staged by Loryl Leigh and Marilyn Lathrop as pink and white decorations graced the gift table. Lunch featured ice cream and angel food cake as Mrs. Alice Quade poured.
