Pumpkin weighs forty pounds found in Plover garden
A. L. Roberts of Plover reports discovering pumpkins in his garden weighing as much as 40 pounds. The discovery was noted in a local column dated September 2, 1948. Mr. Roberts is 82 years old and maintains his garden near his residence.

Pocahontas County groups honor marker site and enlistment
Sixteen Pocahontas County men were inducted into the armed forces on Aug. 24. Rolfe men Arnold A. Sandvig Fredrick C. Beuchle and Donald H. Peters all joined the Army. Pocahontas Historical Society members including Mattie L. Bailey Sen A J Shaw John Collins Fonda F C Gilchrist Jr Laurens Mrs F L MacVey Rolfe Mrs Anna Pollock Plover were elected to place a marker at the site of the first Rolfe courthouse. The Rural Electric Generating plant dedication in Pocahontas was announced. Geraldine Peterson, Secretary, dated August 29 1968. A Treasurer will be levied for a two year term to succeed Mabelle Wiegert. The September 1 meeting will be open for business.

Plums Form Twin on One Stem Displayed by D. E. Young
Local note lists a Lucky Arrow Office exhibit of a rare twin plum growth. Haircuts cost 20 cents at Jones Barber Shop in the First National Bank building. Lila Lea and Eddie Wilcox visited the Henry Schmidt home. Rolfe school opened with about 350 pupils. Katherine Kober, 15, was burned slightly when kerosene met stove fuel, not serious. A Labor Day celebration is planned for September 5.
