Public Utilities Profit Share Misunderstood Says Iowa Study
A historical analysis argues the public gains more from taxes paid by utilities than owners receive in dividends. In fourteen years Iowa Electric Company paid 826 844 40 in taxes while stockholders got 209 764 24 in dividends, with 269 000 in tax funds supporting government services and the public benefiting from lower tax burdens. Central States Electric Company is cited as another example.
