Legion Auxiliary plans a Monday evening gathering at 8 Welab in August. Mrs Harold Lawton hosts with members including the Hovey and Johnson families attending. A cover dish dinner followed by visiting is noted among the events.
Weekend hosts welcomed Mrs Phillips sister and family from El Paso. Others arrived Saturday including Suzan and Dick from Fort Dodge and Billy, an Alabama University cadet, who visited briefly before midnight departure to Des Moines. Sunday visitors included Mr and Mrs Gilbert Phillips. dinner guests were Vance Tuma family Ottosen and Roland Spear Moorland. Amvets Auxiliary planned a white-cover sale for August 2 and county meeting August 13 with 7:30 opening. Mrs Short hosted grandchildren from Des Moines.
Detasseling near completion as DeKalb and Pioneer crews work on farms between Rolfe and Humboldt. Foreman roles shift with Ellwood Chambers and Buddy Wellingham. 24 workers from DeKalb travel daily by bus. Registered workers include Carl Dougherty, Larry Decker, Jerry Farlow, and many others. women crews under Mabel McCullough labor west of Humboldt. Transportation by Maurice Sanden. nineteen report for Pioneer duties, with a Bradgate crew also helping. Some quit or join new crews. pollen allergy forces some off work. The job runs two to three weeks in hot, wet conditions.
Mrs Louis Paulson and Mrs Mary Weible and Mrs Eida Simonson of Whittemore returned Saturday from a week long trip touring southern Iowa Kansas Nebraska Colorado Wyoming South Dakota Minnesota. They traveled home via northern Iowa and enjoyed Colorado Springs Pike’s Peak and the Bad Lands.
Spirit Lake marked the 94th anniversary of the 19th century massacre recalling 32 white men women and children killed. A group from Lake City and Austin Minnesota attended a picnic with dinner and plenty of fried chicken.
Mrs. W. F. Allen of Rolfe celebrated her birthday on August 1 with a pleasant visit from Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Allen, Tia and Mary Allen, and Richard Inman who brought refreshments and shared an enjoyable evening.

The Lutheran Church announces Sunday worship at 9 a.m. Sunday school at 10 a.m. The Sunday school workers meet Tuesday at 8 p.m. Midweek fellowship is Wednesday at 7 30 p.m. Choir rehearsal is Thursday at 8 p.m. Visitors and strangers are always welcome.
Five new exhibitors planned for the 1951 Pocahontas County 4-H Fair as space fills. The outdoor exhibit area north of the 4-H Girls Club building is booked solid, with the Goodrich Implement Co displaying a full line of refrigeration units in the commercial tent. Twin Craulics of Laurens shows sprayers via Keith Farm Supply. Pocahontas County REA runs a separate tent exhibit. Few feet remain. contact the county extension office at Court House, Call 2316. Scouting and Legion groups will operate food and drink stands.
Garfield Gleaners and their mothers gathered at Carolyn Ives home for Local Achievement Day. Judges Mrs Heald and Mrs Wiegert evaluated girls clothing projects for county fair selection while Mary Le Nelson reported on the State convention. Joan Shelgren was named senior and Carolyn Ives junior county fair models.

Mrs Louise Ives thanks those who sent cards, flowers and gifts during hospitalization and after returning home. The notes helped pass the time and were greatly appreciated.
