State Boys Win Awards Amid Flood Damages to Crops
State crop reports describe flowing streams destroying thousands of acres of corn and grain. Wheat and oats suffer yield and quality losses from delayed harvest lodging and excess moisture. In many areas half the small grains may be lost and late wheat only fit for livestock feed. Cool wet weather boosts oat quality with test weights around 40 pounds per bushel, unusual for 32-pound legal weight. Western states Missouri Nebraska Iowa report corn borer infestation in parts.
