Guttenberg faces bond default on a Simmer law electric plant built in 1934 payed from earnings. About 70,400 in bonds issued, first 3,000 paid, but since Sept 1 1985 bonds and interest have defaulted. An Aug 20 election asks voters to approve sale to Central States Power & Light due to inadequate revenue.
In a letter from Frank Priebe a reader recalls ambitious poultry schemes. He describes Texas producers hatching chickens 10 months a year with 20,000 hens in perpetual egg production and incubator use. He notes cockerels raised for market and references remarkable growth stories from Kansas, the Netherlands, Indiana, and Iowa as examples.
Iowa State College Ames tests show soybean oilmeal could yield similar gains and higher profit due to lower cost, but cattle fed it have not finished as well as those fed linseed oilmeal in recent cattle feeding contests.
