Iowa Health officials report suicide by self action rose among ages 40 to 65 with 54 year old men and 51 year old women as average ages. The 1955 rate runs 30 percent above the national average. most victims are men. The youngest victim was 10 to 14 and the oldest 90 to 94.
Eager relatives and friends visited in the area over the weekend. Des Moines travelers joined family in the Cole baugh home before returning Tuesday. Other guests came from Chicago Cedar Rapids and Minneapolis to visit in various households.
Mrs. Gerald Nielsen and Tony Gene visit Barnum and Fort Dodge relatives while Oceanside couple Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Harmon welcome a seven pound seven ounce daughter, Lorrie Jean, born April 5. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lee Harmon and Mr. and Mrs. Don Eppard.
Local lodges and ladies aid groups met across Eldridge and nearby homes. Events included a mother daughter party planned for May 6 at Light Co building, a St Pauls Lutheran Ladies Aid Bible study, and neighborhood social with prizes and lunch served by hostesses.
Duane Jackson, Mrs. Wesley Bennett, Mrs. Lowell Simonson, Mrs. Mel Onnen and Mrs. Dick Kuckenreuther are listed as participants in a local social event.
The Presbyterian Women held a well attended luncheon at the church parlors. Mrs. Alan Loth of Fort Dodge spoke without notes on Religions Around the World, sharing insights from a world trip with a map display. Mrs. Glyde Brinkman introduced the speaker as the group sang and prayed.
The Rolfe Progressive Club visited Mrs. John Rickless at her home Thursday afternoon to wish her a happy birthday and share a social afternoon. Gifts were exchanged, a birthday cake and ice cream were served, and the ladies concluded a pleasant gathering.
