Train Farm Boys For New Fields

Iowa economist J. Allan Beegle argues farm youths need broader vocational education beyond agriculture. He notes 90 defense schools offering 120 hours of training to 1,300 1,400 youths and 1,000 NYA students in commercial homemaking and mechanical courses, but total is under 1 percent of Iowa youths aged 20 to 35. He urges high schools to provide vocational training as one-room schools leave many farm boys with limited high school opportunities.
