Twelve old friends and neighbors from Rolfe visited Arlene Cook’s Ottosen area home Tuesday afternoon to celebrate her birthday. Miss Arlene Cook of Des Moines spent the weekend with her parents. Norine Arnold marked her birthday by sharing a candy treat at school.
Forty years ago on Thursday April 18 1929 Old Borch came home from four months in Denmark. He married recently but could not bring Mrs Borch due to immigration laws. she plans to join in August. George Smith of Mallard visited the Heathman home while a Rolfe Golf Club delegation courted Plover residents. W P Wheeler J B Kent Dr G G Butler and Frank King met locals to stir interest in the club. H C Kauffman sent a hog to Sioux City market drawing attention.
Fifty years ago Rolfe residents report a 710 pound sow sold for 71.10 dollars by Farmers Union Commission Co. Other items note fox scalps by Geo Ham and Fred Nelson, auto shipments from Rolfe Auto Co, Ford car buyers like Frankie Cox, and the Des Moines River bridge closure. The Hall & Tilley Restoration Fund raises 600 dollars toward a 5000 dollar goal with pledges invited. Local residents contribute, travel, and entertain with church choirs and visits across nearby towns.
19 years ago Mrs. Pearl Chambers and Mrs. R. W. Light of Spencer drove to Des Moines for memorial services for all legislators who have died since the last service. Mr. and Mrs. James Trimble Jr and seven daughters visited Elmer Nicol in Graettinger for Sunday dinner. Mrs. John Tiernan won a ham from Station KQTV Fort Dodge. Rolfe Rural Fire Association received a new fire truck already called to two grass fires. Rev and Mrs Milton Schaper visited MYFers Janiece Hansen and Delbert Lowe appendectomy patients at Mercy Hospital Fort Dodge.
The Youth Center opens for the first time since Lent on Friday April 22 with Slug's Pla-boys as the main attraction. A St Pauls Lutheran Church ceremony dedicated the new Series 20 Wurlitzer Organ and Maas Chimes. Andrew Simonson and siblings honor their parents in a church gift. Families Thorson and Ives shared a dinner for Milo Ives celebration. Shirley Thornton attended a Dr Salisbury Co sales meeting at Hotel Curtis in Minneapolis.
Mr and Mrs Ed Shelgren attended funeral services for Clarence Shavel Tuesday afternoon at Plover. Dinner guests in the C Elmer Peterson home were Judy Peterson, Rosann Guttebo Fort Dodge, Richard and Paul Peterson Cedar Falls, and Mrs Mary Peterson. The birthdays of Richard and Chris Peterson were observed. Weekend guests in the Harris Hughes home were Danny Kenery Lenox. Sunday callers were Darrell Herscher family Rodman and Gene Hughes.
