Electric Lights Do Not Boost Egg Production In Chickens
University extension specialist Cora Cooke explains that using electric lights in chicken houses at usual costs does not raise annual egg production. It can shift peak laying to fall and winter for high egg prices, but overall yearly output remains unchanged. Regular, 12 to 14 hour days with morning lighting and an automatic switch is preferred for farm flocks.
