The article notes gradual progress in electricity unit learning for physics students. Kindergarteners finish reading books and begin new pre-primer titles. The Rabbits and Kittens start new readers Monday with daily practice writing numbers to 100. Art class featured finger painting producing modern looking pictures.
Miss Steincke’s class resumes after the snow vacation. Students read about a circus and craft circus animals and people. They make a circus parade mural. In math they enjoy finding a missing number in a combination. Art time features umbrella drawings decorating the blackboard.
The class discussed spring changes like longer days and warmer weather. Karen Ann Collins brought leaf buds. Two reading groups work on Our New Friends and Around Green Hills. Students use addition subtraction worksheets LO and Number Stories Reader. Jeanie Nelson and Dale Reeves recently ill. Second grade reviews combinations to make 11 12 18 14 and uses rulers for measurement. Poem learned is The Wind by Robert Louis Stevenson. Marie Turley and Carl Block had birthdays. both turned eight.
After a storm vacation the class returns to geography lessons on Chinese farming and Iowa conditions. The Busy Workers read Times and Places while Robins and Citizens enjoy illustrated stories. Fifth grade reviews prior material and studies pronouns and verb forms. Lee Jacobson sends Easter greetings from Denver.
Mr and Mrs Calvin Donnelly of DeWitt are proud parents of Jacquelyn Ann born Sunday April 1 at Mercy hospital Clinton. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs F Joseph Schoofs and Mr and Mrs William Donnelly with other relatives noted. A birthday party for Sue Forbes followed with mothers and children present and gifts unwrapped.
In arithmetic the boys and girls learn to multiply by two and three as a shortcut for adding equal numbers. Science covers how animals fly tunnel and live in water. Geography studies fuel from earth and oil and gas. Electricity is noted for doing many kinds of work beyond fuels. Several students earned 100 in spelling and the class finished unit four and a mastery test in English.
Mr and Mrs Marty Walsh announce the birth of a son on Friday March 30 at Hovendon Memorial Hospital Laurens. Mrs J J Sedlacek has returned home after a major operation at Mercy Hospital Fort Dodge. Several relatives and friends visited and traveled between Des Moines Fort Dodge Laurens and Sioux City as church events and school activities unfold. Sacred Heart school schedules a grade music festival April 5 and 6 culminating in Childhood of Hiawatha.
The program features students from grades 1 through 8 performing a variety of vocal and orchestral items. selections include works by Vandevere Brahms Roche Welsh Folk Song Abt and cantata text by Longfellow with music by Ira B. Wilson. plus a congregational mass and processional. additional items include Danis German dances and a Caesar Franck march with Rinck postlude. surrounding notes report on leadership changes in a local Catholic order and assorted community notices.
