I E Announces Rate Increase For Iowa Electric

I E announced plans to raise electric rates to generate about 14.1 million dollars in additional annual revenue. The average residential customer would see about a 15.4 percent increase, roughly 2.84 dollars per month for 600 kilowatt hours. The filing with the Iowa State Commerce Commission seeks a 17 percent rise in total electric revenues versus current rate schedules. Farm and commercial customers would also see increases, with farm averages about 7.06 dollars per month and commercial about 11.15 dollars per month. The utility says current rates inadequately cover fixed charges and a reasonable return on investment for 1974 plants and that higher earnings are needed to attract outside capital.
