Edna Claire Otto infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Otto was born March 4 1931 and died March 29 1981. She leaves two sisters Corrine Colleen and one brother Robert. Short services were held at home with Rev J P Lester officiating and music by Mrs Chas Bowen Mrs J R McIntire and Mrs F E Grant.

DeWolf Dies From Accidental Gunshot Near Rolfe
G N DeWolf known as Tom dies from an accidental discharge while hunting near Rolfe four miles northwest. Body found by nephew Leslie DeWolf around 12:40 pm in a field near a fence with a 410 gauge gun nearby. Coroner jury deems death accidental. he leaves a wife and three children and funeral services set for Saturday at the family home and Presbyterian church.

Debate At Garfield Farm Bureau Meeting Favoring Tractors
A Garfield Township Farm Bureau Unit meeting at the VanAlstine home in Gilmore City debated whether a tractor can economically replace horses on a 160 acre Iowa farm. Earl Chambers and H D Brinkman supported the affirmative, Randall Melson and Thos Raynes argued for horses. Judges Nis Behrendsen and H S VanAlstine ruled for the affirmative.

Old Man Winter delivered a stout blizzard last Thursday and Friday causing blockages and active plowing on primary roads. About five inches of snow piled up with temperatures dipping but not to zero, and moisture was appreciated despite the disruption.

Daughter of Bode Woman Wins Insurance Damages
After an eighteen hour deliberation a Humboldt county jury awarded Tillie Chambers of Bede 5138 dollars in a suit against Home Mutual Insurance Association Des Moines for the death of her daughter Mildred in an auto collision near Havelock on May 1. The car was owned by H M Olson of Bode insured with Home Mutual. Olson’s son drove the vehicle returning from Rembrandt where Miss Chambers had sung with the Bode Lutheran church choir. Judge D F Coyle and son C C Coyle represented Mrs Chambers while C C Putnam of Des Moines defended the insurer.

Robbery and Car Fire Target Poduska Near Rockwell City
Benj Poduska was held up on Primary No. 17 north of Rockwell City by three men in a small black sedan with a Winneshiek county number. They robbed him of 760 dollars, doused his car with gasoline, and set it ablaze, leaving him stranded and seeking help from local authorities. The crime occurred as Poduska traveled from Pocahontas to Rockwell City to catch a train to Council Bluffs. The assailants, described as three men aged about 30 to 40, wore caps and dark clothing. Poduska did not recognize them and did not reveal any money to anyone.

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union met at Mrs. W. P. Wheeler's home. P. S. Beourdeau discussed health benefits of prohibition with data from census figures and insurance reports. The meeting included a quiz and a luncheon with guests from Gilmore City. The next meeting is set for April 24 at Mrs. W. A. Wilkinson's home to study the economic effects of prohibition.
