In a confidential exchange, Travers confronts Jack about Roblado's risky expedition. The plan includes moving Roblado and his daughters, fear of discovery, and a rebel attack on a Havana train near Gomez's main camp that could wipe out the passengers.
Smithers and Travers race to save Jessie Cameron from a planned railroad blast as rebels plan a night derailment. They discuss using a special train run at night and separating the ladies from the party to avoid danger. Time pressure grows as they skim the day’s end.
In Havana, Jack and Smithers devise a daring plan to spirit two women from danger aboard a departing train. They plot a staged disappearance and misdirection to outmaneuver Senor Rablado while Cuba’s struggle for freedom looms in the background. Smithers reveals his sympathies to the Cuban cause as they set a six o’clock timetable and prepare for a dangerous operatio n.
