Odd Fellows Mark 88th Anniversary in Rocky Ford

The Arkansas Valley Odd Fellows held an anniversary union meeting in Rocky Ford last Friday with Grand Lodge officers present to dedicate their debt-free lodge building. The ceremony featured a ritual altar with stones symbolizing the Order’s virtues, remarks by J. H. Crowley and E. W. McDaniels, and a festive afternoon and evening program led by the Daughters of Rebecca with local caterers and music, celebrating a well-kept hall now owned outright.

W. O. W. District Convention moved from La Junta to Rocky Ford

The District Convention of the Order of the W. O. W. planned for May 8 in La Junta is canceled there due to smallpox quarantine and relocated to Rocky Ford. The district covers southern Colorado and preparations for a large gathering are underway.

Rocky Ford council approves licenses and water plan

The Honorable Body met in regular session approving building permits for R. L. Brown and J. A. Standley and renewals for plumbers and pool licenses for J. C. Swink and W. G. Martin. Discussion covered street work, ditch bridges, and dirt purchases while a special session was planned. A Pure Spring Water Company proposal sparked a heated debate before a 6 to 1 vote to accept with conditions. The meeting adjourned, with continued water matter talks.
