Faculty members at the State Agricultural College announced the end of a short course conducted on campus. The program featured lectures and demonstrations for attending students and local residents.
Col T F Tuttle spoke on Colorado in the Winning of the West while E R Bliss outlined grain growing and sugar beet costs. Talks covered cantaloupe breeding, dairy sire selection, horse diseases, and crop rotation with remarks on fertilization, beet quality, and local funding challenges amid a snowstorm.
A recent meeting at K P hall gathered beet growers and boards of trade to approve a scale for beet payments aimed at keeping sugar percentages competitive. Disputes over price per ton and percentage advances followed, with no final agreement by press time. Senators Crowley and Ebbert reported progress on an 8,000 acre factory project in the Arkansas valley as subscriptions neared 5,000 acres with more canvassing planned.
The following day Ebbert and Ryan held three meetings in St. Charles Mesa Vineland and Avondale. Large enthusiastic crowds heard four hours of talks with Ebbert traveling 17 miles between venues. Growers expressed online sentiment during the afternoon and evening sessions.
At the American Beet Sugar Co warehouse workers stacked 100 pound sacks to the ceiling, twenty high, leaving alleys. A slide toppled a mass onto V. S. Hieronymus, burying him and causing a compound fracture of the right leg. He’s reported doing nicely at Rocky Ford Hospital.
Knights of Pythias gathered in Fowler for the Arkansas Valley District No. 1 Pythian Association anniversary. Pueblo and Rocky Ford led delegations with a special train arriving for the event. Officers were elected and Las Animas invited to host next year. A banquet followed the sessions before the 12:40 train ended the day.
Miss Ethel Perkins wed L M Schneider at the Perkins home in La Junta on Feb 15. Miss Fannie Snowden married Walter C Tucker at the bride’s home with Rev Davenport officiating. Bertha Leak married Clarence A Deisch at high noon in North Eighth Street. couple to Pueblo for their future home. The bridal party sent them off, with stork luggage signaling a baby on the way.
Receiver G. M. Hall travels to New York for bank matters while Judge H. M. Minor secures an order allowing the receiver to take the Enterprise building to settle D. W. Barkley’s debt. M. D. Thatcher joins Rocky Ford First National, boosting capital and expertise. Rev. Stamp opens a florist greenhouse at 504 South Eighth Street. G. A. R. women meet Mrs. Hattie Green at 205 North Sixth on Tuesday Feb 25.
