First Carey act land application in Colorado filed

The first application under the Carey act in Colorado was filed with Register Paddock in Denver on February 15. Senator McCreery of Weld County seeks land along the South Platte for a large canal and five reservoir sites to supply irrigation in Morgan and Logan counties. The plan envisions 160 acre allotments for actual settlers and a heavy immigrant labor push to settle and cultivate the land.
