John Wallace of Bryansville, owner of a stand at the fair grounds, was severely injured when a bottle exploded while uncorking a soda. A fragment penetrated his left eye and Dr. Shirey Lang removed the eyeball. Wallace returned to Evansville that night. John Ricker of Luce township was in the city Thursday.

New pupils except first grade urged to come to the office at the stated time rather than wait until Monday.
The W C T U county institute meets at the Christian church Friday at 2 30 pm with a business session for all attendees. In the evening Missouri state evangelist Mrs Lora S LaNance of Joplin will speak, an organizer lecturer and orator noted for wide experience in many venues including churches halls parks and other public spaces.

Jurors for the September term were drawn. The grand jury includes Ev er ett Krome Louis W. Woolfolk James L. Billingsley Jacob T. Maas Wesley Johnson and George W. Jackson. Petit jurors include Edward F. Weisman David Painter John A. Kuttler William Polster Peter Heidelbech Gotlieb Eberhard Nathan Lang Alva Jackson Edward Snieler Charles A. Wilbern Charles H. Lawburg and Daniel Lang. Mr and Mrs J A Bolin and daughter Edith of Huntingburg visited Mr and Mrs Will Feigel last week.

The twenty fifth annual Rockport fair finished with record Thursday and Saturday crowds, total admissions reaching 30 000 despite Friday rain. The Purdue agricultural exhibit drew full attention with Fordue guidance. Races featured two $500 purses, 2 25 pace and 2 30 trot, with winners Mary Neta and Sadie Colbert leading results among stalls, underlining a successful, well-judged event amid clear weather on the final day.

Three inmates a white man and two black men escaped from the county jail Tuesday by sawing two bars from a rear window. The white man fled to the river and was ferried by John Evans before being recaptured at Maceo. The two black prisoners fled into cornfields toward the Owensboro ferry and were nabbed by Marshal Ellis south of town. All three were charged with pocket picking during last week’s fair and bound over to the grand jury after the escape was discovered.
Rev J M Gaiser of Evansville is secured to deliver the address at the soldier's reunion this Thursday Sept 7. Program opens at 10 am with music then Rev G N Wall speaks. Dinner at noon. At 2 pm Rev Gaiser delivers the oration followed by a general love feast and farewell by J S Wright.
