A Nebraskan bound from Liverpool to Delaware is damaged after a torpedo strike. The attack is believed to be from a submarine, with reports indicating the vessel was hit en route to the breakwater. NATO-style phrasing not used. historical context preserved.
The American steamer Nebraskan sustained damage off southeast Ireland reportedly from a submarine torpedo. All crew survived with no passengers aboard. The ship, built in 1902 and owned by American Hawaiian, was under White Star Line charter. An official inquiry will follow port arrival to determine if a mine or torpedo struck her.
The Lake Mill Knights of Pythias will hold a memorial service at Shiloh next Sunday at 2 30 p m The Pythian Sisters will assist The welcome address will be given by J W At Kin ton and Rev Edwin Shake will take part in the program.
Mrs George Barnett was unanimously reappointed secretary of the Odd Fellows home board at Greensburg Indiana by the state Rebekah Assembly in Indianapolis. Appointed three years ago, her term runs three more years and she travels monthly to Greensburg for business sessions with home officers.
Last Sunday morning a memorial sermon for G A R veterans was preached in a Main street tent to a large crowd. Dr G W Shepherd delivered a highly praised sermon while the tent featured flags bunting and special musical numbers led by Prof Van Landingham. Decoration day services will be held next Sunday at the courthouse starting 1 30 PM.

Mrs Henry G Roetzel with assist Miss Charlotte Pyatt hosted a miscellaneous shower for Mrs Martin Hamilton a new bride at Roetzel home in Upper Walnut street last Friday afternoon. Garden flowers decorated the rooms as guests enjoyed punch Neapolitan cream and cake.
A new company named Rockport Realty Co is organized in this city to manage real estate. Directors for the first year are John Pyle Jim Hull Jas Martin Gus Fella and Frank Kincaid. The first project is the construction of a new hotel to meet local demand.

Lester Martin recounts two weeks at Culver Military Academy with about 200 Indiana high school boys in Camp Woodrow Wilson. Daily routines included 5:50 a.m. drills, lectures on military life, trench work, and a sham battle. Maj. Gen. Woods inspected the camp before the group returned home enthused about military life.

George Sheeds, 76, a longtime local painter, died last Friday night at the Odd Fellows home in Greensburg Indiana. Funeral services were held Monday at the Mayhall morgue conducted by Rev J J Robinette under Rebekah and I O O F auspices, with interment at Sunset Hill cemetery.
The Rockport public schools held their annual musical recital in a large tent at Main and 6th streets. Miss Mryde Posey directed the event. Pupils performed well, especially the lower grades, and the audience found the recital enjoyable despite a lighter energy than past years.
Miss Alma Swan of Rockport Indiana visiting Battle Creek was guest of Postum Cereal Co. managers. She toured the plant and the private art collection of the late C. W. Post now on display, one of the best in the Midwest and seen by thousands yearly.
In Boonville this week witnesses including Hooker Wagner Allen Atkinson John W Feigel and Schu macher attended the trial of Sam Schu macher against Commercial Union Insurance Company.
Businessman Gene Scamahorn of the firm Scamahorn and Bennett will be absent about ten days to attend the letting of contracts for ditch and sewer construction in Missouri and Mississippi. He will travel south on business with colleagues to be present at the bidding.
