Meeting of Indiana Democrats Sparks Campaign Optimism

Indianapolis May 25. State leaders including Thomas Taggart and Adair praise the two day 92 county gathering as the strongest party organization meeting. They forecast a democratic landslide in 1916 with plans for First Voters clubs and a St. Louis excursion to boost Marshall.

Spencer County Pageant to Portray Mexican War Scene

Spencer County Democrats, Central Normal College students met to organize a student group of about sixteen officers. A large pageant celebrating the county centennial will stage the Mexican War enlistment scene with local lodges and communities providing roles and costumes.

Memorial service date changed for Sarah Lincoln Grigsby grave

The committee overseeing the Old Pigeon cemetery memorial for Sarah Lincoln Grigsby moved the service from May 30 to June 20 due to delays in placing the monument. Rockport High School will perform She Stood to Conquer at the auditorium on Monday and Tuesday evenings next week.

Mrs Elizabeth Proscaskey Dies At Home In Rockport

Mrs Elizabeth Proscaskey widow of George Proscaskey died at home in Kilm street Sunday May 21 at 11 45 p m The funeral was held at the Catholic church Wednesday May 24 at 8 30 a m Rev F E Schaub with Rev W A Jochum of Washington Ind officiating She was born in Ebersheim Germany and came to the United States in 1852 She married George Proscaskey in Evansville in 1864 Surviving children are Albert Hivansville John San Antonio Tex Louis Fis Wayne Ind Fred Columbia La Mrs Elizbeth Wagner Louisville Ky Mrs Sadie Kissel New York Miss Ida Washington Ind Miss Clara and Mike Rockport Mr Proeaskey died in July 1911.

Old Soldier George W Bettis Dies in Seminary Street Home

George W Bettis Civil War veteran of Company E 14th Indiana died Tuesday at his Seminary street home after three days of bowel trouble. He lost an arm in Virginia and is survived by his wife and daughter Lizzie Wright. Funeral today at 8 30 a.m. with Rev R C Hartman and G A R in charge.

Aged Woman Elizabeth Daly Dies in City

Mrs Elizabeth Daly mother of Mrs John Himmelheber dies Wednesday at her daughter's home on 5th Street in her eighties. The funeral is set for Friday at 2 30 p m at the United Brethren church with Rev J L Battram and Rev John Hile officiating.

Commencement and Graduation Plans at Local High School

The May 31 commencement address will be delivered by Mr. Harry Bowser of Indianapolis with special music by high school students. Twenty three graduates are listed. Mid year promotions will be reintroduced to divide classes into B and A sections. Regular exams are May 25 and 26. The senior annual is attracting attention. RAS Alumni banquet is June 1. The play She Stoops to Conquer runs May 29 and 30. Baccalaureate at Methodist church with Rev. Hartman. Senior reception in purple and white. Memorial parade and grade exams to close the year.

Spencer County Pageant at Rockport Fair Grounds

The Spencer county centennial pageant will be staged at Rockport fair grounds with a cast over a thousand. Kate Milner Rabb wrote the script and Bess Ehrman directs the production which honors local history. Centennial coins priced from one dollar will fund expenses, with Rockport Odd Fellows and Garnet chapter OES contributing performances.

M E C A members were entertained at Miss Lillie Peckinpaugh's home on Tuesday evening May 23. Special guests included Mrs. Margaret Wright and Mrs. Mary Laird. The program featured talks on the church's early history and refreshments were served.
