Woman's Club elects officers as season closes

The Woman's Club held its May meeting at the Seminary building with spring decorations. Retiring President Laura Wilkinson praised the group's work and thanked members. Officers elected: President Helen Swan, Vice President Eva Stevenson, Secretary Jessie Markland, Assistant Secretary Kittie Nibjack, Federation Secretary Helen Baumgaertner, Treasurer Celista Diehl, Custodian Emma Davis. District convention set for Boonville May 6 with delegates Wilkinson and Stevenson and alternates Schoenfeld and Baumgaertner. Luncheon followed. adjournment to September.

Eastern Star Auxiliary Entertained at Huffman Home

The Eastern Star auxiliary met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. B F Huffman’s home with Mesdames Hearing Hartey and Miss Haines Harrison assisting. Members enjoyed needle work social chat and a third contest. Neapolitan cream and cake were served guest Mrs Helen Nester of Boonville attended.

Indiana May 1 crop report shows strong condition gains

The May first crop report lists Indiana winter wheat at 98 with United States at 95.5, rye at 95 in Indiana and 93.4 in the U.S., hay meadows at 91 in Indiana and 96.9 nationally, and spring planting above average at 37 in Indiana and 56.4 nationwide. Abandoned winter wheat area in Indiana is 13 percent, leaving 2,480,000 acres. U.S. abandoned 3.11 percent leaving 35,400,000 acres. Old hay in Indiana May 1 1914 was 234,000 tons, down from 465,000 a year earlier. Overall, prospects for farm products look better than average.

Jury Fails to Reach Verdict in McColly Suit

In Owensboro federal court last Friday Walter McColley a Rockport Black man sought 10000 dollars against T F McIntyre a Yelvington merchant for a leg injury from an April incident. Doctors said no pain remains yet the case will not be retried until November.
