Suppressed Townsend Harvester Trust Report Recalled

Washington May. Discovery shows Burdette D. Townsend, Roosevelt trust investigator, reported in 1906 that the harvester trust was a monopoly restraining trade, bribing railroads, and organized by George W. Perkins. The report was suppressed by the Attorney General with Roosevelt’s acquiescence. Roosevelt allegedly ordered no suit against the trust as profits rose in Missouri and Oklahoma.

Henry Maas Passes in Old Age and Civil War Veteran

Henry Maas born in Badee Germeny April 21 1840 was the second son of Jacob and Catherine Schumacher Maas. He died May 13 1902 after a long life of business success in Rockport and service in the Civil War with Indiana’s Volunteer Infantry. He married Catherine Punde in 1866 and had six children. three survive with the mother. Funeral services were led by Rev. C Harms and Rev. M W Sunderman with the Grand Army of the Republic post present.
