Grapes and Fruits Hit By Severe Late Week Frost

The late week freezes damaged many fruits with grapes affected more than other small fruits. Peaches and apples suffered in low ground orchards. Garden vegetables including beans tomatoes and potatoes froze badly though wheat remains largely unharmed. Ground was frozen hard.

Veterans of three wars honored at Silverdale gathering

A Saturday night meeting featured Reese Bunner and brothers Lindsey and Solomon, who enlisted in 1847 in Ohio and served in Mexico and the Civil War. Fletcher Peek spoke about hardships of war and the heroism of American troops, while children were urged to remember their sacrifices. The event’s financial contribution to Mr. Peek fell short due to competing local attractions.

Injured in Car Accident Near Underhill Tire Factory

Mrs. Commodore Abney drove a car Saturday morning when unmanageable steering caused a crash near Underhill's tire factory on 5th street. The windshield caused severe cuts on her hands and face. a front wheel and radiator were smashed. Wm. J. Tableman and son helped by taking her home.

F Peek to Speak on Soldier Boys at Lincoln Park

Fletcher Peek will speak Sunday at Lincoln Park at 2 p m on the soldier boys in the trenches. The Tell City band will perform until eight p m. Soldier boys in full uniform meet at the depot at 1 30 p m to march to the park for the address by Private F Peek in the auditorium.

Lizzie Wright Sustains Both Leg Break in Warehouse Fall

Mrs. Lizzie Wright, bookkeeper at the Ray warehouse, fell from a ladder Monday afternoon, breaking both bones in her left leg. The injury was serious and will keep her sidelined for several weeks. She was alone when the accident occurred and was found on the warehouse floor before receiving aid from a physician.

Dinner honors Ex-county Treasurer Haug's son Maurice

A large meal was held last Thursday at the home of former county treasurer Joseph Haug near Dale to honor his son Maurice who was home on a ten day furlough. Maurice is stationed at Fort Harrison and expects to be discharged soon.

A joint meeting of the 34th and 85th districts of the K of P lodge will be held Friday in Evansville with Orion lodge. Deputy grand chancellor J F Bauman will attend and promote a large turnout from the county and district. An afternoon program is planned and urged for all knights to attend.

Katheryn Lieb Stevenson marked her tenth birthday with a Tuesday afternoon party at her home on South Second Street. She hosted many girl friends including Pauline Higenmann, Mary Wade, Judith and Eloise Parker, Julia Mason, Shirley Lang, Ellen Thurman, and Francis Pribble, with iced refreshments served.
