Lew Ellingham, former Indiana secretary of state, resigns from the Democratic News Bureau and relocates to Decatur to pursue journalism at his first loved field. The move signals a return to newspaper work and a shift away from public office.
In Indianapolis on March 20 the writer declares the Democratic editorial team ends its vacation and urges all Democrats to organize for a new campaign. He praises the Indiana legislature’s record, defends Governor Halston, and warns that progressives may shift to Democrats if the party shows vigor and activity. All deceased’s property goes to Frank W. Kleiser except $200 to Catherina Schaefer. the will notes it was written by the testator.
Clyde Barnhill of Boonville was found guilty of manslaughter by a Warrick circuit court jury and sentenced to two to twenty one years. He shot Bud O Laughlin on Boonville streets over alleged attentions Barnhill's wife had received.
The Sunday school convention of Ohio township will be held Thursday April 15 at Shiloh M E church. Sessions begin 9 30 a m with transport from Rose Hill meeting point at 9 00 a m. Attendees are urged to bring sketchbooks and enjoy an all day meeting.
John S. Roberts sues Southern Railway for 1000 dollars claiming he was refused passage after presenting a Rockport to Chrisney ticket on December 12, 1914. He alleges assault and public humiliation by the conductor and seeks damages. Additional suits include Kubertz vs Schroeder on notes of 250 and 185 dollars. Arch Stevenson represents the plaintiff. Abzalom Gentry et al vs R B Stevenson forecloses mortgage and notes 220 dollars. Mary Robinson sues Tremper to quiet title in Grandview. James H. Mathies sues Martha J Ray to set aside her real estate conveyance to satisfy a prior judgment of 225 dollars.
The Owensboro Inquirer reports the death of Mrs. William C. Parrish in a Philadelphia hospital last Friday. She was formerly Miss Maude Lemmons of Rockport, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elick Lemmons, with her mother Mrs. Eliza Lemmons now living in Philadelphia. Parrish died after an operation about a month earlier. friends in Rockport express their regret.
State tuberculosist society coordinates an illustrated Indiana lecture on tuberculosis aimed at public meetings across the state. The program will be distributed to local areas with possible lecturing staff from the society and slides showing disease control efforts in Indiana.
John S. Park pursues a damage suit against the Evansville and Eastern railway, with ongoing legal proceedings and further motions scheduled in the case.
In Sgt Snyder's court Robert Newton faced a preliminary hearing for stealing a skiff from Herb Riley at Grand View. Newton was bound over to circuit court to await trial after arrest by J F Bauman on the Ohio River theft. John Simms and Ethel Footrow had hearings on larceny charges. Simms’ case moved to Grand View for venue, both tied to corn theft allegations.
A Tuesday agreement makes L. M. John sole denier of the furniture business after a chain of sales starting with J. T. Jacobs Jr selling funeral supplies to John, then John selling to Charles Mayhall, who transfers furniture to John. Mayhall plans remodeling his undertaker shop with a front office, center chapel, and rear morgue in the commodious building.
Indiana high court upholds Special Judge Oscar Minor ruling in the big ditch case. Landowners in Carter and Harrison townships Spencer County and Dubois County joined a remonstrance against a proposed ditch costing about $110,000 affecting northern lands.
Purdue's Dairy Special will tour interurban lines in Southern Indiana starting March 29. An equipped interurban car will run from Evansville for a week of lectures and demonstrations under Prof. C. J. George of Purdue's dairy extension division.
Rep. Chas Lied secured an invitation for Speaker Clark to address the Grandview chautauqua. It would be his first appearance in the First District and is expected to draw a large crowd.
Dr James Milligan chief physician at Indiana state prison Michigan City will replace Dr oe P Busse as superintendent of the Southeastern hospital for the insane at Madison Indiana. He will assume the post on June 1.
The county auditor offered at the courthouse door last Monday three tracts of land mortgaged to the state to secure school fund loans. Two tracts sold, one bid in by the auditor for the state, and no bid for the remaining tract.
Recorder Vaal records fifty four oil and gas leases on land in Luce and Obi townships. Leases made to Albert L. Brahm & Co. of Pittsburgh, Pa. cover between five thousand and six thousand acres.
State Inspector Pearcy told Richland City officials the high school will receive commission once library is enlarged with 200 dollars worth of books on agriculture domestic science literature and history. He praised the building and grounds and urged better equipment including a physical laboratory and expanded manual training and domestic science facilities. Accompanied by County Superintendent Strassell Township Trustee Wilkerson they approved progress and promised follow through.
