Matthew K Hirsch longtime Rockport and Tell City business figure dies at his Tell City home after a brief pneumonia illness. He helped organize the centennial celebration in 1916 and served as treasurer. Surviving are wife Cecelia and two sons Norbert and Ralph, plus siblings and mother. Funeral services held in Tell City and Rockport with burial in Rockport Catholic cemetery.
A daughter named Sarah Ann was born last Sunday to Mr and Mrs Will Thurman who live near the Grandview chautauqua grounds.
John Kemp Sr died Sunday night at his farm home three miles north of Dale after a five day illness. He was 75 years, 10 months, 12 days old and left twelve children. His wife had died nine years before. Surviving are twelve children, a brother S. D. Kemp, two sisters in East St. Louis and Oklahoma. Funeral at Mt. Vernon church with Rev. QO. C. Taylor presiding.
The steamer Control sprang a leak and sank at the head of Little Island five miles below Rockport. Twenty five crew escaped unharmed. Owned by Ralph Emerson, the boat hauled his show boat Golden Rod from Paducah to Point Pleasant to open the show season. Pumps failed as water filled the hull and the vessel went down. efforts to raise it will await river fall.
Samuel A. Reavis, an old Rockport resident and former tombstone businessman, died Tuesday at his sister's home in Evansville. He was once associated with J. Fleenor Bauman in Rockport. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in Princeton, his former home.
Mrs g0nn Brown entertained six tables of bridge guests including Princeton native Mrs cenivy noczei and many old friends from Boonville. The luncheon followed games as baskets of spring flowers decorated the tables with hostesses and attendees named.
The Lincoln Literary Club met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs C W Phalpruge on north Lincoln avenue. President Mrs J G Baum presided and after business drill in parliamentary usage conducted by Mrs Louis Wilkinson. Visitors included Mrs George Gold of New Madrid Mo Mrs James Jones and Mrs Lavins Schoenfield of this city. Next meeting set for March 28 at Mrs James Bartrim's home on Second Street.
Mrs Anna Taylor widow of the late B M Taylor died at her Seattle home. The body will be brought to Rockport for burial. She was past 78 and survived by two sons Harry M and Charles of Seattle and a daughter Mrs Lillian Browning of Seattle. Funeral services planned at the Methodist church and burial at Sunset Hill cemetery.
Jacob Beanblossom of Grandview confirms Opal Beanblossom married in September to a Mr Snyder of Evansville. The bride, a Grandview High School and Lockyear’s Business College graduate, has worked five years as a stenographer at Blount Plow Works in Evansville. The couple will reside in Evansville.
John A. Huffman and James A. Wright collided at Maas corner on Tuesday afternoon as Wright traveled on Washington street and Huffman on Lincoln street. The obstructed view from the old Maas blacksmith building caused the crash. both cars were disabled but neither driver was injured.
Mrs C D Ehrman entertained two tables of about five hundred guests last Saturday evening as a compliment to Mrs Henry Roetzel of Princeton. Attending were Mrs Henry Roetzel, Mrs John Brown, Mrs Guy Walker, Mrs John Fuerster, Mrs John Feigel, Mrs Mollie O Payne, and Mrs H D Ehrman.

Averages shown include Luce Ohio Hammond Luff Carter Jackson Grass Crat and others for horses cattle hogs farm implements and household goods with Harrison township unavailable. Independent Order of Odd Fellows district meeting in Evansville drew 75 Rockport Grandview members with 1600 attendees and fifty initiates led by multiple grand officers.

The Spencer County High School Association met last Saturday in the arts building for events including opening exercises, Rockport girls glee club, a projection lantern demo by Rockport High, slides on Roman home life, and a round table on Latin teaching timing. Lucille Richards and Bernice Tullis performed piano numbers. Two nurses from Indiana University spoke on health education.
George Freshly a prominent Spencer county farmer died last Friday at his Rock Hill home aged 75 years 3 months 20 days after seven months illness. Born in Germany he came to America at age six and lived in Spencer county sixty years. Survived by wife Margaret Keobertz and eight children including W H Freshly South Bend Mrs J W Cook Mrs Clarence Eskridge Mrs George Cissna Rock Hill George Oscar Freshly Chrisney Phillip Freshly Grandview Mire and Harry Phipps Lawrenceville Ill plus a brother Louis Freshly Rockbert and 29 grandchildren. Funeral from home last Sunday with burial Sunset Till cemetery conducted by Rev B Schuermier.
Mr and Mrs Arnett Richards hosted a St Patrick dinner for the Married Club at their Main street home. Green and white decor featured green carnations and spyri flowers as guests including Dr and Mrs C D Ehrman Mr and Mrs L C Smith Mr and Mrs Roy Dempsey Mr and Mrs Jacob Baum Mr and Mrs Louis Wiener Dr and Mrs K C Atchison and Mr and Mrs C C Ashcraft.
The Pattie farm barn near Rose Hill school house burned about four o'clock last Friday. Mrs Alva Rudisell found the fire and Mr Rudisell saved his horse and cow but lost a new buggy and six thousand pounds of tobacco ready for market. The barn had little insurance and a net loss of 800 dollars. the tobacco was insured. The cause is undetermined.
The Friday night club will meet this evening at Dr. Iva Buxton's home on Fourth Street.
County agent notes from Indiana cow testing data show economy wins. Over two years 1931 records reveal ten cows under 100 pounds of butter fat and nine over 500 pounds, with feed costs per pound of fat at $1.02 for low producers versus 26 cents for high producers. Cattle suffer reduced flesh and hides damaged by bot flies that lodge beneath the skin during winter. The larvae grow, emerge through the skin in weeks, and lay eggs for new generations. Farmers should inspect cattle now and squeeze out the bots by hand to curb this pest.
