Samuel Schumacher of Grass township enters the race for county commissioner in Spencer County district two. Evansville sculptor George Honig won a five thousand dollar contract to erect a 16 foot high 60 foot long memorial fountain in Shelbyville Indiana’s public square. The basin will feature a granite shaft with three bas ins and a bowl containing a boy scout a school girl and a boy fishing. Electric lights will illuminate the figures atop the shaft.
James McCullough appears as a candidate for Grass township assessor. He is described as a respected farmer with good judgment on property values and the essential qualifications of honesty and capability to perform the duties if nominated and elected.
County commissioners held a regular session in which several road petitions were continued to April 4. A contract was awarded to construct the James A. A voter column endorses James C. Jeffrey of Hammond Township for Spencer County treasurer. The farmer is praised as an honest, qualified candidate who has never held office but understands public duty and will serve the people, aiming to improve county finances across party lines.
Mrs S D Graham aged 85 died at her Third Street home Monday evening at 7 35 p m She had lived in Rockport 65 years coming from New Albany at 18 to teach a private school She was active in the Methodist church and its missionary society and a charter member of the W C T U The funeral was held at her residence Wednesday at 2 p m Rev J H Diehl officiating Surviving are her daughter Mrs James G Taylor and nephew John Graham of Spokane Washington
The American Legion members will be honored guests at an entertainment Friday evening March 17 hosted by the Knights of Pythias lodge in Rockport. A theatrical company will present the play Civil Service and no admission is charged.
