Deputy County Auditor Morris completed the January apportionment of school funds drawing warrants for the county’s school corporations. Spencer County paid $8,021.20 to the state and received $11,531.51 back, an excess of $3,510.31. Apportionment amounts include Luce $1,859.17, Ohio $1,786.73, Hammond $1,112.86, Huff $1,042.63, Harrison $1,141.40, Carter $1,123.84, Jackson $182.90, Grass $1,180.91, Clay $899.95, Rockport $1,650.64, Grandview $476.32, St. Meinrad $351.20, Dale $327.06, Gentryville $263.40, Chrisney $285.35.
Counties receive varying sums from state school funds with many districts getting more than their payments while others receive only about half. The distribution favors districts with larger enrollments and greater estimated needs, affecting local budgets and planned expenditures.
The state superintendent completed the semi annual apportionment of state school funds for January sending warrants to county treasurers. Forty one counties received more money than they paid in, while Marion paid in 148495.28 and received 98489.34. The big five counties show varied returns with Vigo 118 percent, Vanderburgh 128.3 percent, Allen 100.7 percent, St Joseph 123.2 percent, and Lake 115.6 percent. Benton at 44.8 percent and Warren at 50.1 percent were lowest. The disparity is attributed to child population and property assessment, with rich counties paying more per child yet receiving per capita amounts similar to poorer counties.
The Spencer circuit court met after a one week adjournment. The damage suit of Abbie J. Stites against Andrew Betz et al was dismissed at plaintiff's cost. The record notes assignment for trial in the Martin Maffenbeier case.
State Statistician records show 4,253 divorces in Indiana in 1908. Cruel treatment leads with 1,758 cases, followed by abandonment 1,072, failure to provide 612, adultery 352, drunkenness 343, criminal conviction 36, and all other causes 80.
A lawsuit seeks to stop Township Trustee Walters and the advisory board from erecting a four room high school in Richland City, contending the plan favors South Richland City and skewed incorporation timing. Plaintiffs name Crowder, Kirkland, and Crowder. defendants include Walters Lindsey Richards Haines and McCoy. A hearing is set for February 5 with a restraining order already in effect.
Mrs Mary Y Herrell sues The Evansville and Eastern Electric railroad The Evansville Railways company and the Luce and Ohio township Telephone company for $20000 damages claiming injury from contact with a telephone wire touching a trolley wire owned by the railroad.

Harry Bowen, 40, farmer, Spencer county Crider South, 40, laundry girl, Owensboro, Ky.
The late Curtis Sanders of Hatfield left all property to his wife Mary A Sanders for life. Twenty acres go to daughter Josephine Hazen and twenty to son Samuel C Sanders. Mary A Sanders named executrix without court intervention. Will dated May 28 1906 witnessed by Louis F Weiss and Rollie Morris.
Four damage suits, each for 2000 dollars, against William Sensmeier of the Base Line Saloon on the county line between Vanderburg and Gibson counties were settled last Saturday for 1200 dollars. Ellis M. Ray got 500, Mrs. Martha Hooper 200, Mrs. Revie Beck 300, and James Reed 200.
