The cornerstone ceremony for St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dale was officiated by Rt. Rev. Bishop O'Donaghue. Readings and prayers marked the event as parishioners celebrated the milestone in their new house of worship.
The corner stone of St. Joseph's Catholic church at Dale was laid last Thursday amid an all day gathering of about 300. Rt. Rev. Bishop O'Donaghue presided with a large clergy line, after a morning high mass and German sermon. The new church sits in a three acre grove, 41 by 80 feet main hall, 25 feet high, cost estimated at 10,000 dollars, with dedication planned for October.
The body of Mrs Maria Crooks who died last Saturday at her granddaughter's home in West Virginia was brought to Rockport on Monday for interment. Funeral services were held at M E church conducted by Rev E H Boldrey. Interment followed at Sunset Hill cemetery beside her husband Dr John W Crooks. Mrs Crooks was 78 and had lived in Rockport most of her life.
The Board of Review met last Monday in the sheriff's office with members Ludwig White Jacobs Kercheval and Haines in attendance. They began review of assessment lists from Luce township and will hear complaints from any township at any time, though none have been filed yet.
Mr Henry Thomas and Miss Lena Dossett, prominent Sacramento Kentucky residents, eloped to Rockport Indiana and married aboard the 100 oclock boat by Magistrate Brown. Accompanied by Mr Freeman Short and Miss Lela Ben Berry from Owensboro the couple left for a short bridal trip.
The will of James Fisher probated bequeaths all the deceased’s property to his wife Anna Fisher who is named sole executrix. The document was executed March 25 1896 and witnessed by Bayard Taylor and Orville L Greves.
Walter Ray son of Jeff Ray produce merchant and Anne Mosby of Grandview were married last Thursday. They are both popular young people. Evansville's population numbers are cited with a remark on evangelists, noting Rev. Scoville converted 481 of 100000 in the city and calling for more evangelists.
The state's board of assessment for corporations shows a shortfall of 1,754,303 dollars triggering concern over tax collections and prompting scrutiny of assessment methods and revenue forecasts. Public officials blamed the drop on shifts in corporate activity and enforcement gaps.
The 1909 report shows net property value decline of 1,754,303 due to railroad earnings drop and storms harming telephone lines. Railroads and telephones alone fell 4,074,125, while pipelines and other lines rose 2,323,589. Electric roads gained on right of way, as steam rail mileage dropped.
Companies showed a total increase of 1,156,726 bringing the overall rise to 2,628,830. Western Union Telegraph Company supplies a portion of the total with an increase of 1,157,806.
The Dale Gas Company is formed to build a gas plant supplying Dale for lighting with capital stock of 6000 dollars and a fifty year term. Directors for the first year are Adam Wallace J W Cooper and James W Ladd. Stock subscriptions include the town of Dale and numerous local residents. The gas plant is now being installed.
List of couples obtaining marriage licenses in Kentucky and surrounding counties. Names include John H. Some marriages note officiants and dates June 2 to June 7.
A temporary injunction was issued Monday by Judge C A DeBruler prohibiting Evansville street car workers from interfering with car operation or persuading passengers to boycott, or urging others to quit the company. The case is set for June 17 in court.

Carter county board awarded twenty eight bridge contracts after hearings on Lincoln City liquor licenses. Protests, signed by 322 residents, argued park beautification funds and lack of police protection would be harmed. Licenses granted to multiple applicants with Lincoln City protest deemed insufficient.
The Kitchen building on Main Street between 4th and 5th is repainted and papered in readiness for Laird and Moby to relocate their grocery and meat business. The firm plans to move next week and will offer a larger stock of high quality groceries and meats.
At a June 6 meeting of James C Veatels Post G A R the members adopted a resolution noting aging members and thinning ranks. They extend thanks to Rev. G N Walls Rev D P McCoy Wm F Adams F S Morgenthaler and John Brown for their commendable roles in the decoration day program.
