Death of Edward D Woods in Elk Point South Dakota
Edward D Woods died at 6 46 pm on Monday June 22 after a seven month illness from complications. Born January 23 1896 in Richard County Kentucky he served in the Indiana infantry during the Civil War losing an arm at Snake Creek Gap and later earned a corporal rank before discharge. He moved to Dakota territory in 1867, married Harriett L Butts in 1868 and left seven children. Funeral held at his residence with Rev Beatty officiating, burial in Elk Point cemetery.

Aged citizen Jacob T. Nancy dies near Rockport at 78
Spencer county pioneer Jacob T. Nancy died at his home west of Rockport on Saturday July 27 following a short illness after a fall from a hammock. Born December 10 1827 near Rockport he lived on farms near Shiloh. He married Lucy Burdick and had twelve children, five surviving: Americus Jesse Leona Ensor Nellie McGuire and Mable Morris. He served in the Mexican War and Civil War. Funeral at Shiloh Church Monday at 2:30 p.m. Burial in Shiloh cemetery conducted by Rev. Edwin Shake.

Forged $9 Check Leads to Court Admission
Emmie Harris colored confessed to forging James A. Parker’s name on a nine dollar check and cashing it at Farmers Bank. He was sent to circuit court after pleading guilty in justice court and jailed awaiting September term. Harris, about eighteen, had been released from Plainfield reform school four months prior and admitted theft of one hundred dollars from Tom Haines of Richland City before the nine dollar forgery. The money was recovered. the nine dollars remained spent. Mrs Mabel McCoy paid fines for assault and battery on Mrs Anna Ray. Ray was fined for provocation. The two women fought on Main street Tuesday evening.
