Robbers believed linked to John Hays burglary spree struck Chrisney early Friday. They hit Chrisney Bros general store Pharaoh Chrisney's shop and Freschley Bros meat market through rear windows but left little cash. A tampered safe at Chrisney Frills failed to yield, bloodhounds followed a trail to the railroad, and a hand car vanished near the ice plant before being recovered. Local officers including Marshal Cutler and Constable Bauman searched the area for the culprits.

Bassett was seriously injured in the neck and breast. Richardson and Wadkins were released. Montgomery is held awaiting Bassett's outcome.

Isaac Hayes of Central City Kentucky was arrested in Hatfield on suspicion of being an escaped prisoner from Frankfort. Evansville detectives examined him and found he did not match the convict description. the sought man is Jesse Clark alias Hayes, 27. Hayes claimed to be a traveling blacksmith and mechanic and at one point used a false name Irvin. He was released after the Evansville check.
