Rockport hit by severe storm causes city damage

A major storm struck Rockport causing extensive damage to city property. Lightning struck structures and traction cars became tangled in debris, leaving streets clogged and utilities disrupted as emergency crews responded.

A Sunday morning electrical storm hit Spencer county, striking multiple areas near Rockport. Lightning damaged a locust tree at C C Murray’s yard and the Albright church on Washington Street suffered about forty dollars in damage. Thirteen trolley poles blew down near the county line, stopping traffic, and telephone lines were badly damaged.

Richey and Markland Wed at Methodist Church

Miss Mayme Richey and Mr. Dick Markland married last Monday at 10 in the morning in the Methodist church parsonage with Rev. Guy Hartman officiating. The couple left for a new home near Danville Tl after the ceremony.

Spain couple backs from Ohio trip via Indiana routes

Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Spain returned last Sunday from Akron and Dayton, Ohio, after two weeks away. They drove with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hargis, who stayed in Akron. The journey went through French Lick to Indianapolis and Dayton, with good roads until Spencer county on the return.

Glackmans to North for Mayo Clinic Postgraduate Course

Dr. J. C. Glackman and wife Mrs. Glackman with family depart Wednesday for Rochester Minnesota. He will attend a postgraduate surgery course at Mayo Bros hospital. They plan camping at night and staying in a lake cottage during the stay.

Collins Man Dies at 26 in Shiloh Neighborhood

William C. Collins died last Friday morning at his parents home in the Shiloh neighborhood. He was 26. Besides his parents he leaves three sisters. Funeral services conducted by the American Legion were held Sunday afternoon at Shiloh.

Harry Horn of Decatur was struck dead by lightning Sunday morning at his mother in law Mrs Stevens home west of Dale. He and his wife were visiting relatives in Dale. The body was taken to Decatur for burial.

George W. Stillwell of Dale suffered a stroke Wednesday evening and is in a semi conscious condition, becoming a focal point of local concern.

Mrs Robert Montgomery entertained Wednesday afternoon at her new home near Hureka with an attractive card party for guest Miss Polly Walker of Alton Illinois.
