Indianapolis news writer declares Rockport the best governed city in the state, citing efficient administration and stable leadership. The piece emphasizes municipal stewardship and civic achievements while noting regional competition and political perspectives.
W W H Blodgett notes Rockport Indiana has rebuilt governance on nonpartisan cash basis. A citizen-led cleanup eradicated graft and liquor influences, reducing debt, boosting investments, and expanding schools, industry, and roads while preserving orderly, law-abiding life.
Petitions circulated across Spencer County seek construction of a modern new county court house with added ground and full amenities. Signers include many heavy tax papers who favor a building adequate to public needs and proper record preservation.
Grading by the railroad on Wednesday targets a block bought by the Evansville and Eastern for a side tracks and freight depot. After completion, Grand View extension gains attention from railroad officials, and locals hope work starts soon along the line to Newtonville.

Osborn engineering company surveys two routes for an interurban road linking Rockport and Owensboro with a proposed Ohio River bridge. One path runs west of Rockport and meets the river bank on the bluff at the Haines farm opposite Iceland.
Two survey teams work two miles below Rockport and at the head of Little Island five miles downriver to compare sites for a bridge. A Michigan side survey from Owensboro toward both points is also underway. Officials will choose the more favorable site and estimate the bridge cost with connecting interurbans at each location.
Judge W. S. Holman of Aurora heads state commission surveying Yankee Town hills in Warrick county for a potential tuberculosis hospital location. The site would require about 540 acres at 560 feet altitude, wooded with water, within proximity to rail lines, and priced near 50 dollars per acre with 30 thousand dollars available. The commission has not yet decided on river counties, though Dr. Hurty favors a river location. In Chesterfield Camp, John B Chrisney of Chrisney announces his summer address and asks for the Democrat to be sent to his Chesterfield Camp home through September, calling for an educational read.
Trustee Dodd of Luce township names a full slate of District 1 teachers for the upcoming term. Appointments include Salem Parker and Maude Lang, with principals Alvin Branch and W. J. Haynes, and assistants such as Ada Lloyd and Amy Wilkinson. Contracts must be signed by Sept 1 or the district will cancel appointments and name replacements.

Dr. James Turpin died Thursday night at his home after several weeks illness. He was over eighty two and among Rockport’s oldest physicians, a Civil War veteran of company F first Indiana cavalry. Funeral was Saturday at the Christian church conducted by Rev Gulledge. John A. Young Sr a former member of company F first Indiana cavalry died Sunday night at his home. He was seventy five and had been ill some weeks. Funeral was Tuesday.
A storm Saturday afternoon sent lightning across the river from Rockport striking several spots. Two or three houses and multiple trees took the electric current with no serious damage reported. At Whitesville near Owensboro a tent sheltering storm victims was struck by a tree killing one man and a team of mules and injuring several others.

Levi T. Reed 27 a coal miner from Perry county wed Elizabeth Fugitt 16 of Spencer county on July 22 in a ceremony conducted by Rev. A. Gulledge. Orville D. Harris 21 a letter carrier from Gentryville married Sylvia D. Atwood 19 of Gentryville.
The Wayside Inn owned by George Hawk near the Vanderburg county line on the Evansville and Rockport electric line was burned Saturday morning. Authorities suspect a fire bug. Loss estimated around 1500 dollars.
The four year old son of James Hurley of Newbury was struck by an electric car on Rockport road Tuesday. He sustained both legs broken and one leg required amputation, while the other leg’s fate remained hopeful.
Jo Bennett alias Slamdown a colored man was arrested here last Saturday by Marshal Sessor. He was wanted in Owensboro on a charge of highway robbery and was taken to Owensboro for trial.
