Prominent Farmer Joab Hill Killed on Midway Farm
Joab Hill, sixty four, died Friday after a wagon tongue struck him as his horses bolted on his Midway farm. He lived in Richland and rented the Midway acreage to Fred Ayer. Survived by two wives Mary Fox and Julia Scales and six children from both marriages. Funeral Sunday at the Presbyterian church in Midway with Rev. Ephriam Hale officiating. Burial followed at Midway cemetery.

The eighth grade exam of 1919 examined 568 manuscripts. Sixty eight reached above seventy four percent with no subject below sixty. Some students will be granted high school entry permits based on age and other factors. Penmanship improved, physiology and hygiene strong, spelling improved, and reading showed literary skill but weak interpretation. The majority of failures were in arithmetic due to careless reasoning and misreading questions.
Luce and Ohio township telephone suit decided for defendant
The Luce and Ohio township telephone suit over stockholders liability was decided in favor of the defendant. Judge Tweedy ruled mortgage bonds were legal and the company insolvent when issued and when stock sold to some shareholders. About 30000 dollars involved. second mortgage bonds ruled against directors and in favor of the First National Bank of Rockport and others.

Corner Stone Laying by Masons at Rockport Court House
The corner stone of the new Rockport court house was laid in a ceremony led by Judge Charles J. Orbison grand master and local Masons. A copper box sealed with articles from 1916 1919 and local newspapers was placed and later opened amid a large crowd of two to three thousand as the Newbury band played and the Masons discussed liberty justice and fraternal ideals.

Ray Sues For Divorce In Local Court
Henry N Ray files for divorce from Lottie A Ray alleging cruel and inhuman treatment since their May 19 1919 marriage. They separated July 3 after she became violent and refused to live with him. He gave 3000 dollars as a settlement of her interest in his real estate. W C Mason is attorney for the plaintiff.

Farm Barn Burns in Alexander Neighborhood Fire
Will S. Frank’s farm barn in the Alexander neighborhood burned at 2 30 pm destroying two horses a buggy a surrey five tons of hay and two racks of lumber. John Ruark owned the other property on the farm and carried no insurance the barn was insured for 350 dollars. About an acre of tobacco near the barn was destroyed by the heat.
