Road Supervisor Fined In Santa Fe Court
Robert Smith, road supervisor of Hammond township, was fined five dollars and costs in Squires Court at Santa Fe for failing to keep roads in proper repair as allowed by labor permits. A jury of twelve heard the case before Justice David Lewis. Smith plans to appeal to the circuit court. The contested road lies on the boundary between Clay and Hammond townships and was noted for a large mud hole. Hammond trustee George Henderson was acquitted of a separate charge regarding delaying repairs on the same rural route after notification. Henderson’s trial occurred last week before Squire Poole at Rockport. The road has since been repaired. Deputy prosecutor A. H. Hoch handled both cases for the state.

Oscar F. Houghland a former Spencer county citizen died at his Evansville home last Friday. He had recently been granted a $40 monthly pension through Congressman Lieb but died before receiving the benefits. He served in company E 25th Indiana volunteers.
