Evansville Death of Chas Wood Veteran Spencer County Resident
Chas Wood a former Spencer county resident died at home in Evansville last Friday aged 68. His remains were taken to Rockport Sunday for burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery after church ceremonies led by Rev. C. E. Edwards of Evansville. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Miss Ida Wood of Evansville and Mrs. S. Power of Chrisney.

Local draft board schedules exams for June registrants
Beginning Monday June 5 the local board will examine 128 registrants for physical fitness. Seventy eight have waived exemption claims. others cite dependents or agricultural work. Examinations take about three days. none will be called for the July draft but are expected for August. The board aims to supply 97 men for the July call, drawing from Class 1 first and then deferred class if needed.
Reunion of Hartsville college students planned for August
J A Peckinpaugh received a letter from Amos Lemman concerning a reunion of Hartsville college alumni in Columbus Indiana. The gathering is set for August 14 and 15 and invites all former students. It will mark the third reunion with expected strong attendance. Peckinpaugh and his brother John E Peckinpaugh attended Hartsville university in Bartholomew County when young. the school was led by the U B church but has since closed. Dixie Wilson of Richland City also studied at E Hartsville university.

Warrick Farm Resident Fined For Sugar Hoarding
Woman Metz of a Warrick county farm near Spencer county was punished in Boonville last week for food hoarding. Lon Meta, with four street teeth, supplied sugar to Warrick, Spencer and Dubois counties and stored 400 pounds when caught. He was fined 50 dollars, sugar seized, and he must avoid sugar for 90 days with his family.

Heavy Sunday storm harms Spencer County crops and livestock
A Sunday night rainstorm with thunder, lightning and hail hit Spencer county. In Ebeneezer neighborhood hail killed chickens and damaged corn and tobacco. George Shurman near Grandview reported the heaviest loss as lightning struck a tree sheltering eleven hogs, all killed. Rain caused little crop damage overall.

The Liberty Guards of Rockport and Dale were issued khaki uniforms for the Fourth of July celebration. Uniforms cost 750 dollars, with 400 donated by witnesses.
