Miss Hazel Larkin of Madisonville Ky and Lawrence Karney of this city wed Friday July 4 in Madisonville. The bride is the daughter of Charles and Grace Larkin former Rockport residents. They visited his parents James and Mrs Karney then headed Sunday to Louisville to make their home.
Miss Mildred Davis hosted a small slumber party last Saturday night at her N Third street residence. Guests included Misses Alice Mason Lucille Richards Enda Mee Eigenmann Dorothy Ehrman and Lora Baucum of Evansville. Daniel Kopp has the frame of his bungalow on Main street under way.
A large Spencer County gathering is expected in Rockport on Friday for laying the new court house corner stone at 2 PM. Delegates from Evansville and many towns are invited. the event will feature Judge Charles J. Orbison as grand master of the Masons, with a special parade by the Hadi Patrol band and Shriners. The stone measures 55 by 30 by 22 inches and will contain a sealed box of county history, coins, newspapers, seeds, and a home spun plug, to be deposited Thursday afternoon.
Indiana official will officiate and deliver the address at the ceremony. A cover stone will be placed in the north east corner of the building with a base thirty inches above ground. Judge Orbison will have charge of the ceremonies and a likeness is presented.
Miss Rosalia Brenner and Maurice Meyer were married Tuesday morning at the Catholic church of Mariah Hill. Rev Marcus Meyer officiated. Attendants were Theresa Brenner and Clement Meyer. An all day reception followed at the bride’s parents’ home.
Rockport plans a Friday clean up before the corner stone laying of the new courthouse. Citizens are urged to tidy premises and remove any sparse weeds to present a spick and span town for visitors and the city council, praised as its best in years.
Nash Tower son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira N. Tower died Tuesday at their Hatfield home after a thirteen week tuberculosis illness. He was twenty two. Survived by three sisters Mrs. Anna Benifer Los Angeles Calif Mrs Mollie Crowder and Mrs Etta Johnson of Hatfield. Funeral Friday at ten at Hatfield Methodist Church Rev G F McNaughten Grandview conducting. Burial in Parker Cemetery Hatfield.
Miss Eugenie Strassell of this city spends her vacation at the University of Notre Dame Indiana where she specializes in botanical work under renowned scientist Rev Julius Niewland G Ph D. Her aim is to become a splendid teacher in this field.
W R Bottenfield moved his family from New Albany Indiana to Rockport last Saturday and now resides in a newly purchased Elm Street house formerly owned by Will Eigenmann.
James N. Smith sustained two rib fractures after a step ladder broke under him while he worked at the home of W. C. Mason. He is reported laid up for repairs.
The Aubry Haines estate twenty four acres near Midway sold at administrator's sale last Tuesday for 2800 dollars. Ely Kirkland purchased the land.
