Auto License Fund Paid to Counties

Secretary of State Ellingham apportioned to counties money received for automobile licenses with Spencer receiving 529.18 dollars. The allocation reflects distribution of auto license revenues to county authorities.

Auto license funds disbursed to Indiana counties gains for rural areas

Six month totals show 150235.30 collected by the Secretary of State for auto licenses with 118345.58 distributed to Indiana counties. Distribution splits one third equally among 92 counties one third by road mileage and one third by auto revenue. Rural counties like Marion and Spencer show net gains from the scheme, while larger counties pay more than they receive. Next year the fund is expected to exceed current payouts.

Shrode Marriage Halted by Surprise Shower in Wash Street Home

Mr and Mrs Clyde Shrode arrived from Jasonville Indiana to a miscellaneous shower. They wed at the bride s Jasonville home last Wednesday at noon conducted by Rev S L Todd. About sixty friends attended Friday evening and gave many useful gifts. They will reside at the Edge Shrode and wife home on Wash street with relatives in Dexter Missouri nearby.

Mysterious Disappearance of 100 Chickens in Basement

About one hundred eight day old chickens vanished from the basement of Mrs. Watson McCoy on Seminary Street during last Sunday night. Hatched in an incubator and cared for by Mrs. Watson Jones the birds disappeared as if by magic. No trace found and rats are unlikely suspects. authorities suspect an intruder unlocked the basement door and took the poultry.

Farmer Takes Leases On Oil Lands In Grass Township

County Recorder Vaal records another batch of oil leases on Grass and Ohio townships west of Cross Road church. Ira J. Farmer of Dale holds the leases covering about a thousand acres. The lessee must drill a well within twelve months or pay a nominal annual payment after one year to keep the lease alive, with a test of the leased section planned within the year.

Rockport meeting invites citizens on building loan topic

The Rockport savings and loan association will hold a public meeting at the courthouse next Friday evening. Dr. W. R. Dunn of Dale, a building and loan expert, will attend and deliver an address to Rockport residents.

Francis Hammond Wins Washington Trip For 76 Bushel Acre

Francis Hammond of Lake Mill won a free trip to Washington for top corn in a Purdue short course contest. He produced 76 bushels per acre on his father Chris Hammond’s farm in a black loam soil, with judges judging quality, cost, yield, and a written project report. Earl Sowder of Lawrence County won the boys championship.

The M E C A gathering met Tuesday afternoon hosted by Mrs Robinnette Mrs Fannie Wright Miss Laura Wright and Mrs Della Bridges. Spencer Investment Company files Articles of Association

The Spencer Investment Company a corporation capitalized at 1000 dollars filed articles with the county recorder on Tuesday to prospect and drill for oil gas coal and minerals. It will lease and purchase lands as needed and buy and sell such leases. Place of business is Lake in Spencer county with a five year life. Incorporators and initial directors are Louis H. Robert Frank J. Robert James E. Magee Ira J. Farmer and Patrick H. Axton. The county council will convene on February 5 for a meeting.

Mrs. Mary Howard Dies After Illness at 60

Mrs. Mary Howard wife of Dr. Oscar F. Howard of Princeton and Rockport died last Friday from cancerous trouble at age sixty. Survived by her husband three daughters Bessie Sallie and Esther and three sons Oscar Wilmer and Tom. She was daughter of Wilmer Hyland early Rockport merchant for fifty years and leaves a sister Mrs. H M Logsdon of Evansville.

County Debt Wiped Out Soon as Bonds Paid

Treasurer paid 9000 of the old issue of bonds this week and nine more bonds of 1000 each will be settled in January 1915 and January 1916. Interet coupons totaling 472.50 were also paid. The infirmary debt will drop to 12500 in two years, leaving only that amount plus the remaining principal. People’s Bank of Evansville holds the bonds paid and the remaining 18000 in county bonds. Total county debt now stands at 31250 including infirmary bonds.

Income Tax Time Soon for Individuals and Corporations

Notices urge all persons and corporations with net income above thresholds to obtain blank forms from the internal revenue collector and file sworn returns by March 1 1914. Taxation starts at one percent for excess income with married couples allowed higher thresholds. penalties include fines from 20 to 1000 dollars and a 50 percent addition. Troy town board grants lighting franchise to Hardinsburg firm

The Troy town board granted DeHaven and McIntyre of Hardinsburg Ky a franchise to install an electric lighting plant for street lamps and house illumination. Twenty five street lamps will be installed and merchants and residents will use the service. Promoters seek the Troy brewery building or the fighting plant and ask for possession of the property.
