LIterary Club explores the short story tradition
The Literary Club met with Mrs Laura Wilkinson as host. C C Mason gave a talk on parliamentary usage. Mrs Nelle Wiener outlined the short story from nineteenth century to today with examples from Maupassant Kipling Hawthorne and Sinclair Lewis. A guest reader from Chicago presented Henry Van Dyke's America for me.

The Rockport lodge I C O F visited Hatfield on Wednesday to confer the first degree on two members. A large gathering attended and a banquet followed. Speakers included Wayne Nunn Porter of Hatfield C B Snyder and J B Friedel of Rockport. An amusing barnyard music imitation entertained. Eight candidates received the third degree in Rockport earlier in the week.

Obituary of Nancy Donham May in Fairview Cemetery
Nancy Donham May, born July 28 1837 in New Richmond Ohio, died January 11 1921 at age 83 in her home county. She married William T. May on November 3 1857 and had five children, including Robert W May Emma and Clara preceded her. surviving are three daughters, nine grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. She joined the U B church young, funeral by Rev A B Condo at home, burial in Fairview cemetery. she lived her entire married life on her farm.

The Homemakers' Club met in Hatfield on Saturday January 15 with Mrs. Mattie Wilkinson leading a Local History program. Mrs. Hattie Pattie presented on the Meeks family of Spencer County and pioneer trials with Indians. Mrs. Jolly spoke on early schools and teachers. Mrs. Wilkinson sketched the Mattingly family lineage. Helen Montgomery and Erma Crowder sang a duet. Guests included Mrs. Della and Mrs. Nannie Pattie served a salad course.

Evansville and Spencer county Knights, about sixty and 1100 respectively, gathered Wednesday evening at Grandview. The third degree was demonstrated and Merrill Wilson of Evansville gave the main address on the order’s tenets. After the talks, apples and cigars were served, then attendees went to the Pedigo hotel for lunch.
