County coroner reports inquests for 1916 deaths
Dr. F M Hackleman coroner reports to the State Bureau of Statistics that 13 inquests were held in the county for the year ended December 31 1916. Of these 10 died from natural causes, 2 from accidents, 1 from asphyxiation and 1 from drowning. There were 12 males and 1 female. 11 whites and 2 colored. No homicides suicides or deaths by steam railways interurban railways street railways or automobiles.

Fire loss adjusted for St Bernard's church
The J G Hill insurance agency settled a church fire claim with St Bernard's church trustees last Monday. Insurance carried by several companies totaled 6200 on the building and 800 on furnishings, with payments of 10157.09 for the building and 645.15 for contents.

Schumacher Pays Big Price for Kentucky Tobacco Deliveries
A large shipment of tobacco arrived in the local market with many farmers getting above contract prices due to a sharp price rise. Sam Schumacher of PLM Clary bought a substantial burly load from Russell Poole in Daviess County for $420.02, a record local sale at $13.25 per hundred. Schumacher has secured much of the Kentucky tobacco, with other houses also receiving portions of the crop.

Mrs Branch Dies at 63 in Sycamore Street Home
Mrs. Louisiana Branch, aged 63 years four months and four days, died last Saturday evening at her Sycamore street home. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J. M. Daniel and burial followed at Sunset Hill. Maiden name Powers she married Thomas Branch in 1869. They had two daughters and five sons, all but one of whom survive. The five sons and an aunt attended the last rites. three sons live in Evansville, one in Poplar Bluff Missouri, and one Alvin B in Stockport.
